With Daniel Jenkins

Creative Director, Publisher of Purposeful Activity and Fashion Connoisseur

1. What's new?
My new project, Purposeful Activity: my love letter to the people, places & products which make the UK great.

2. What's your favourite way to waste time?
Procrastination? I wouldn’t claim to be an expert… but, I do like the dog taking me for a walk along the river to pub..

3. What do you tune in to on a car journey?
Depends upon the vehicle. I seem to drive a different car each week, usually though it’s a ‘vintage’ Mercedes estate which only gets football related radio stations in town & ‘tuned’ engine note out, or Range Rover which seems to prefer, Super Furry Animals, Nick Cave, Dennis Wilson and Serge Gainsbourg. Cliché, non?

4. What's your favourite road movie?
Tied between ‘C’était un rendez-vous’ by Claude Lalouch and much missed Adam Kimmel’s ‘To Almost Die for Suits’. Both reckless, pretentious choices, sensible me, would throw in Easy Rider.

5. Who is your ideal travelling companion?
The often track-suited and always exquisitely shod, incomparable Zoë.

6. What is your favourite view?
That fleeting view right across the valley when driving on A46 towards home, seen for a split second and each time reminds me how exceptionally lucky I am to live in the world’s most beautiful place.

7. What is the fastest speed at which you have travelled on land?
70mph officer.

8. If you could invent a motoring accessory, what would it be?
A soul for modern cars. I’m in awe of the technology, but, far too many drive you, rather than let you drive. Where’s the fun & frustration in that?

9. When in London....
Well when not working, it’ll be one, some or all of the following, Guinness at Auld Shilelagh, Bacon Sandwich at St. John, £1 espresso stood by bar in termini soho, book perusal in Heywood Hill, beard trim by Mark at Trumpers (Curzon Street), Glass of anything exceptionally cold by Trimbach with slip sole in brown butter at Noble Rot, Buta Miso at Koya, staircase ogling at Newport Street Gallery, Record searching in Honest Jon’s.

10. Do you have a Connolly favourite?
My Drop Back Car Vest, I’m either wearing it or it’s in the car. It’s been worn pretty much everywhere from side of mountain to wilds of Mayfair, and everyone wants to know where it’s from.
